Meet the FRC Staff

 

Kentry Jn Pierre

Kentry Jn Pierre is Executive Director at the Folk Research Centre.  He comes from an education and trade union background and has worked actively in the cultural community in many capacities.  Kentry holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield. His research and teaching interests includes lifelong learning, Creole language and culture and decolonising methodologies. Apart from his academic publications, he has also published a collection of Creole short stories, Twa Ti Kont Kwéyòl and his novel ‘Another Chorus, Another Verse’ for which he was the awarded the Prize for Literary Arts in 1988 was serialised in the Voice of St Lucia.  An avid calypso aficionado, he was manager of the popular Take Over Tent for several years and an executive member of the St Lucia Calypsonians’ Association. Kentry Jn Pierre is a self-described Creolist.  He has a passion for the Kwéyòl language and is fascinated by issues related to Kwéyòl language and culture.

 

Felicia Anthony

Felicia Anthony is the Human Resource Officer at the Folk Research Centre where she has worked since 1994.  She studied Business Management with The Association of Business Executives from 2005-2008 and Business Management at the Cave Hill School of Business, University of the West Indies from 2009 - 2011. She has a passion for keeping the folk culture alive since she hails from the community of Babonneau which is so rich in the Kèlè tradition. Ms. Anthony has received intensive training in the fields of Accounting and Computer.  She loves the Real-Estate market and event management.

 

Ashline St. Martin

Ashline St Martin is Office Assistant at the Folk Research Centre where she has worked on and off since 1998.  In addition to her administrative duties, she also receives tours, works closely with visiting researchers and the FRC educational programme for primary and education aged children. Ashline is originally from Choiseul, a community rich with an arts and craft tradition, particularly in the art of pottery inherited from its strong Carib legacy. She is an avid folk dancer, and favours the kutumba and bèlè. She is keen for any opportunity to share her passion for St Lucia’s folk dances. 

 

Robert Lee

John Robert Lee is Information Officer at the Folk Research Centre.  He is also a published poet and winner of the St Lucia Medal of Merit, a national award acknowledging his contribution to the development of St Lucian Arts and Culture.

In 2006, he co-edited with Kendel Hippolyte Saint Lucian Literature and Theatre: an anthology of reviews, which is recognized as a significant contribution to the documentation of the history of Saint Lucian writing and drama. His own work is widely anthologised and his latest publication elemental: new and selected poems was published by Peepal Tree Press in 2008.

 

Merline Servauis & Winston Crawford

Merline Servauis & Winston Crawford are the custodians at the Folk Research Centre.  They oversee the maintenance, cleaning and security of the property.  Winston was born in Guyana but has made St Lucia his home since 2001; Merline is born, Soufriere raised and very steeped in St Lucian folk traditions.  She is a singer and often performed in choral recitals while at school.  Both Merline and Winston are fans of Country and Western music.
