Irena Florita Marquis- 'Mama la woz'

Florita Marquis was known as Mama La Woz, a chantwel of tremendous talent. The eldest of four sisters, in a La Woz family, Florita Marquis began to attend séances at the age of eight and it was not long after that she began to entertain audiences with her own renditions.  She is multiple time award winner of the M&C Fine Arts Award and Canaries youth and sports council award winner in 1998.  She has also won the La Wenn Kwéyòl award.  Her recording career began in 1976 when she recorded two original songs with the popular Merry Makers.
