Elisa 'Liza' Maxwell

Eliza Maxwell is credited with having revived the dying Flower Festival traditions.  She was a long time ally and friend of the FRC and helped preserve and pass on the songs and dances of St Lucia, including kont, debot, bele, kwadril, lakomet and helped re-establish the flower festivals.  She was a Commander La Rose and active in the folk-rich community of Goodlands (Ravine Pave), the hillside community above the fertile Cul De Sac valley.  With friend Mary Mitchell, she built the La Rose Hall, an all-purpose centre built to serve the needs of the area A committed community leader, Elisa Maxwell was awarded the 1999 National Medal of Merit (Gold) for her contribution to the folk arts.
