Rumelia Edwin

Rumelia Elwin was a folk researcher who worked tirelessly to revive the flower traditions engaging people like Joyce Auguste to record and promote the music of La Marguerite and La Rose.

She was herself a celebrated chantwel and musician, played the melodica, and taught and organised folk events at her home, bringing folk musicians together.

She trained in Australia as a physical education teacher and worked at the Vide Boutielle Primary School until moving to the Ministry of Education to become a Physcial Education officer.

Her son Daniel Elwin is also a musician who recorded Quiet Fire, an album of instrumental folk music, drummer and who is head of the group.
